MAC was founded in 1993 by a number of men with prostate or testicular cancer. Two years later, through the good offices of Tom Hudson, then the Chief Executive of the Irish Cancer Society, MAC entered into a partnership with the Society which has endured.
Some members of MAC have undertaken training provided by the Irish Cancer Society to prepare prostate and testicular cancer survivors to provide peer-to-peer support to newly diagnosed men and their families. Peer-to-peer volunteers do not provide medical advice. For this you should contact the ICS Helpline 1800 200 700 where you can speak to a trained cancer nurse. If you want to talk to a man who has experienced prostate or testicular cancer the helpline will refer you to a trained MAC volunteer.
